I'm continuing this week's short series with my reflections on 'Sorry', a song by another immensely talented young artist, Chloe Lorentzen.
Chloe is from my neck of the woods - Stamford in Lincolnshire. Now 15, Chloe has been involved in music for many years, and has received some great support locally. I had the pleasure of taking my daughters to see her playing live in February 2020, shortly before our first lockdown hit.
This song is one of two that she released in January this year, following up on an album in 2019. Her other January release, Birthdays in June is definitely worth a listen, too. Apparently Chloe plans to release a song on the last day of every month throughout 2021, so it's worth following her to see what else she comes up with.
This song retains the same stridency and sense of genuine, heartfelt storytelling which has made Chloe's previous music special. She has a beautiful voice, with a slight edge to it, and an obvious talent for song-writing, both musically and lyrically. In 'Sorry', Chloe's voice sounds particularly powerful but also easy on the ear, and she uses this to great effect. And it's the more tender moments that also stand out, as she tells her very effective story of a break up taking place during lockdown.
This is raw and pure emotion set to music.
